Graphic Design Tool

Part of the worlds-biggest-software-project initiative.

An AI-native, open-source graphic design platform that turns brand guidelines and prompts into on-brand, multi-channel creative — without forcing teams into a proprietary template ecosystem.

The Graphic Design Tool is a template-based design platform with AI generation, positioned as an open alternative to Canva. It targets marketing teams, social media managers, content creators, founders, and enterprise communications teams who need brand-consistent self-service design but are increasingly squeezed by per-seat pricing and ecosystem lock-in from incumbents.

Why a New Graphic Design Tool?

  • Incumbent pricing scales painfully. Canva Teams starts at ~$10/user/month, Figma Org at $45/user/month, and Visme Business at $59/month — costs that compound rapidly for mid-market and enterprise teams.
  • Ecosystem lock-in is the norm. Adobe Express requires Creative Cloud buy-in; Canva, Figma, and Visme are proprietary SaaS with no self-hosted path.
  • AI features are bolted on, not integrated. Most tools treat layout, copy, and imagery as separate modalities; multimodal single-prompt generation remains poorly solved across the category.
  • Brand compliance is still manual. No incumbent automatically flags brand-guideline violations, and accessibility checking (WCAG contrast, alt text, reading order) is absent across the category.
  • Print and regulated workflows are underserved. No surveyed tool documents CMYK output, ICC color profiles, or PDF/X support — leaving professional print and compliance-driven industries with no good fit.

Key Features

Design Creation & Templates

  • Template library and drag-and-drop editor covering social media, presentations, infographics, ads, and print formats
  • AI layout and composition generation from text prompts (Magic Design / Make-equivalent)
  • Multi-platform export with 100+ preset sizes for social, email, print, and web
  • Multiple export formats including PNG, PDF, SVG, and video

Brand & Design Systems

  • Brand kit management for colors, typography, and logos with one-click application across designs
  • Design system automation that auto-applies brand styles to generated and imported content
  • Real-time brand compliance checking that flags guideline violations before publish
  • On-brand generation that lets AI produce assets first and the user refine, rather than forcing template selection up front

Collaboration & Workflow

  • Real-time multiplayer editing with commenting and version history
  • Collaborative review and approval workflows with formal sign-off and version lock
  • Freemium entry with premium upsell for broad adoption

AI Generation & Augmentation

  • Generative AI for images with text-to-image and iterative refinement
  • AI-powered copy generation and adaptation for length, tone, and translation to fit layout constraints
  • Video creation with music sync, voiceover, and beat-matching for social media
  • AI voiceover generation across multiple languages
  • Multimodal generation in a single prompt covering layout, copy, and imagery together
  • Variant generation at scale for A/B testing without manual re-design

Accessibility, Compliance & Print

  • WCAG contrast checking, alt text suggestions, and reading-order validation embedded in the design loop
  • Print-ready workflow with CMYK conversion, bleed and crop marks, and ICC color profiles
  • Intelligent asset recommendations matching design intent and brand
  • Design-to-code export including CSS, React components, and design tokens for developer handoff

AI-Native Advantage

Trained on brand guidelines and asset libraries, the platform can auto-generate on-brand content without forcing template selection — eliminating the primary creative friction point of incumbent tools. Real-time style transfer and brand-lock enforcement address enterprise compliance pain that Canva, Adobe Express, and Figma handle only through manual guardrails. Multimodal generation that composes layout, copy, and imagery from a single prompt, combined with intelligent simultaneous reformatting across every channel, replaces workflows that remain largely manual even in market-leading tools. AI-driven accessibility checking embedded in the design loop serves regulated industries that current tools ignore entirely.

Tech Stack & Standards

The project aligns with established graphics and publishing standards: SVG (W3C) for vector outputs, PDF/X (ISO) for print-ready exchange, ICC color profiles for color accuracy across media, OpenType and Variable Fonts for typography, WebP and AVIF for modern image export, and WCAG 2.2 for accessibility. Integration targets include major social platforms, marketing automation tools, cloud storage, and developer handoff via CSS and design tokens.

Market Context

Canva alone reached $4B ARR in 2025 at a $42B valuation, and AI usage inside Canva hit 800 million tool uses per month — up 700% year-over-year — indicating the broader AI-assisted graphic design market is well into the tens of billions (SaaStr, 2025; AInvest, 2025). Pro tiers across the category run $8–$30/month with seat-based enterprise contracts, and enterprise now accounts for 20% of Canva's revenue, signalling sustained upmarket movement. Primary buyers are SMB and mid-market marketing teams, social media managers, content creators, founders, and enterprise communications teams seeking brand-consistent self-service design.
