Mining Operations Management
Part of the worlds-biggest-software-project initiative.
An AI-native, open-source operations platform unifying asset tracking, safety compliance, ore processing, and environmental reporting for modern mines.
Mining Operations Management is a candidate project to build a single digital platform for mine operators, planners, technicians, and safety officers. It addresses the long-standing fragmentation between fleet telematics, CMMS, EHS, ore processing, and ESG reporting systems by integrating real-time IoT sensor data, predictive maintenance, and automated environmental reporting into one operational picture.
Why Mining Operations Management?
- Incumbents like IBM Maximo and IFS Cloud carry SAP-like complexity and six-to-eighteen-month implementation timelines, putting them out of reach for mid-tier and junior miners.
- OEM-bundled fleet systems (Cat MineStar, Komatsu KOMTRAX, Wenco DSx) deliver deep telemetry but lack work-order, EHS, and environmental reporting capabilities.
- Dedicated EHS platforms (Cority, VelocityEHS, Intelex) cover safety and compliance well but provide no fleet, maintenance, or ore processing functionality.
- No single vendor adequately covers fleet management, CMMS, EHS, ore processing, and ESG reporting — operators are forced to integrate multiple proprietary stacks.
- Ore processing circuit monitoring and integrated tailings, water, dust, and emissions reporting are largely absent from existing management software and remain bolted on via separate SCADA and historian systems.
Key Features
Asset & Fleet Management
- Asset register with site → area → equipment → component hierarchy and status tracking
- Real-time GPS location, utilisation, fuel consumption, and status for haul trucks, excavators, and drills
- Mixed-fleet telematics ingestion via ISO 15143-3 (AEMP 2.0)
- Multi-site management with consolidated KPI views for operations managers
Maintenance & Reliability
- Work order management for planned, reactive, and condition-based triggers
- Preventive maintenance scheduling by calendar, runtime hours, or meter readings
- AI-driven predictive failure scoring from vibration, temperature, and runtime telemetry
- Inventory and parts management with reorder alerts and PO creation
- Mobile-first technician app with offline support for low-connectivity sites
Safety, Compliance & Contractors
- Digital pre-shift inspection checklists and hazard logging
- Incident and near-miss reporting with investigation workflows
- Permit-to-work issuance and site-access control integration
- Contractor induction tracking and competency management
Ore Processing & Production
- Real-time grade, tonnage, and recovery metrics across crushing, milling, and flotation circuits
- Production planning aligned to mine site-specific workflows
- Unified operations dashboard covering safety, production, asset availability, and environmental status
Environmental & ESG Reporting
- Automated capture of tailings inventory, water usage, dust, vibration, and emissions data
- Report generation aligned to GRI Standards and the ICMM framework
- Jurisdiction-specific environmental compliance tracking
AI-Native Advantage
Predictive failure detection uses ML models trained on mining-equipment-specific sensor profiles rather than generic industrial thresholds, with retraining triggered by new failure events. AI drafts maintenance SOPs from asset history and OEM manuals, automates ESG narrative compilation against GRI 14 templates, and surfaces hidden risk patterns across incident, sensor, and procedural data. Natural-language querying lets non-technical mine managers interrogate operational data without dashboards.
Tech Stack & Deployment
The platform is designed for industrial IoT integration with SCADA, PLCs, and OEM telemetry feeds (Komatsu KOMTRAX, Caterpillar Product Link) over OPC-UA and MQTT, with edge computing nodes to handle remote sites that have unreliable connectivity. Open standards include ISO 15143-3 (AEMP 2.0) for mixed-fleet telematics and GRI / ICMM alignment for ESG reporting. Mobile clients target ruggedised and explosion-proof devices for underground and hazardous-area use, and OT/IT integration points are hardened with NERC CIP-equivalent controls.
Market Context
Mining operations management spans enterprise EAM (IBM Maximo, IFS Cloud), mining-specific asset tools (RPMGlobal AMT), OEM fleet platforms (Cat MineStar, Hexagon HxGN MineOperate, Wenco DSx), CMMS entrants (Tractian, MaintainX), and EHS suites (Cority, VelocityEHS, Intelex). Pricing across these incumbents is generally not publicly listed and assumes enterprise budgets, leaving mid-tier and junior mining companies underserved. Primary buyers are mine operations managers, maintenance planners, EHS leads, and ESG / sustainability officers under intensifying 2026 regulatory pressure.
