Personal CRM

Part of the worlds-biggest-software-project initiative.

An open-source, AI-native personal CRM that helps you track relationships, life events, and follow-up reminders before connections go cold.

Personal CRM is a relationship management tool built for individuals rather than sales teams. It records life events, interaction history, and personal context for the people in your life, then prompts you to reconnect at the right moments. It is designed for professionals, networkers, and anyone who wants a "second brain" for relationships without the overhead of a sales pipeline.

Why Personal CRM?

  • Business CRMs are over-engineered for managing pipelines and ill-suited to personal relationship management; spreadsheets lack reminders, context, and integration with communication tools.
  • Monica is the only mature open-source option but has no AI features, no mobile app, and no native email or calendar sync.
  • AI-native incumbents (Folk, Dex, Clay/Mesh, Orvo) are all proprietary SaaS — there is no open-source AI-native personal CRM.
  • Pricing for personal use of professional tools is steep: Clay starts at $167+/mo, Streak at $588/year, Folk at $24/mo (team-oriented features), and Clay personal plans at $20/mo.
  • Most tools optimise for either personal or professional contacts; none handle family, friends, and professional relationships with equal depth.

Key Features

Contact & Relationship Management

  • Rich contact profiles with notes, tags, custom fields, and relationship type labels
  • Life event tracking: birthdays, anniversaries, milestones, and job changes with automatic reminders
  • Tagging and grouping by context (work, family, university, hobby groups)
  • Import from CSV, Google Contacts, vCard, and Apple Contacts with deduplication

Reminders & Relationship Health

  • Keep-in-touch reminder engine with per-contact cadence and event-based triggers
  • Relationship health score derived from interaction frequency vs. target cadence
  • Flagging of relationships at risk of going cold

Interaction Logging & Sync

  • Manual interaction log for calls, meetings, and messages, with optional emotion/mood tags
  • Email and calendar sync (Gmail, Outlook) to auto-detect recent interactions and surface them for logging
  • LinkedIn sync for job title, company, and profile photo updates

AI-Native Capabilities

  • Contextual reconnect suggestions with personalised opening message drafts
  • Contact enrichment from email signatures and public sources
  • AI meeting prep briefs aggregating interaction history before calendar events
  • Voice transcription for in-the-moment note capture

Privacy & Deployment

  • Self-hosting option (Docker) for privacy-sensitive users
  • Mobile-first UI for iOS and Android with offline support and background sync
  • Privacy-first data handling with clear data residency and encryption

AI-Native Advantage

Unlike Monica, which is open source but has no AI, and unlike Folk, Dex, Clay, and Orvo, which are proprietary, this project pairs open-source self-hosting with AI capabilities. AI replaces manual interaction logging by summarising email threads and meetings per contact, turns generic "time to reconnect" nudges into contextual reconnect prompts with drafted opening lines, continuously enriches contact profiles from email signatures and public sources, and scores relationship depth and decay risk based on interaction patterns.

Tech Stack & Deployment

Expected deployment modes include a hosted SaaS option and a self-hosted Docker deployment for full data control, following the model demonstrated by Monica. Integrations target Gmail, Google Calendar, Outlook, LinkedIn, and CardDAV/vCard for contact import. A REST API with OAuth 2.0 supports custom integrations, and mobile clients for iOS and Android sync in real time with offline support.

Market Context

The personal CRM space has grown substantially in 2024-2026 with a clear split between professional networking tools and personal relationship tools, and AI integration is now a differentiating feature. Incumbent pricing ranges from Covve at $12.99/month and Clay personal at $20/month up to Clay/Mesh Growth at $167+/month and Streak at $588/year. Primary buyers are individual professionals, founders, investors, and networkers managing tens to hundreds of personal and professional relationships.

Project Status

This project is in the research and specification phase.
Contributions, feedback, and domain expertise are welcome.

Contributing

We welcome contributions from developers, domain experts, and potential users. See CONTRIBUTING.md for guidelines.

Important: All contributions must be your own original work or clearly attributed open-source material with a compatible licence. Copyright infringement and licence violations will not be tolerated and will result in immediate removal of the offending contribution. If you are unsure whether a piece of code, text, or other material is safe to contribute, open an issue and ask before submitting.

Licence

Licence to be determined. See discussion for context. Note that Monica (AGPL-3.0) is referenced as a comparable open-source project; any reuse of its code would carry AGPL-3.0 obligations, but a clean-room implementation inspired by its feature set carries no IP risk.
