Sports Team Management
Part of the worlds-biggest-software-project initiative.
An AI-native, open-source platform that brings integrated rosters, scheduling, performance analytics, and scouting to the underserved mid-market of amateur, youth, and semi-pro clubs.
Sports Team Management is a unified operating system for coaches, team administrators, and sports organisations who currently stitch together spreadsheets, messaging threads, and disconnected apps. It targets the gap between consumer-grade team apps (TeamSnap, Spond) and enterprise athlete-management suites (Teamworks, SAP Sports One), giving mid-market clubs pro-grade analytics and scouting at an accessible price.
Why Sports Team Management?
- Elite platforms like Teamworks and SAP Sports One deliver advanced performance and scouting capabilities but are priced and scoped only for top-tier clubs.
- Consumer apps like TeamSnap, Spond, and Heja cover scheduling and chat well but offer shallow performance analytics and no scouting or video tooling.
- Specialist tools (GameChanger for live scoring, Hudl for video, SportsEngine for compliance) each solve one slice — clubs end up paying for and integrating multiple subscriptions.
- The competitive set is dominated by proprietary, walled-garden SaaS; no significant open-source incumbent exists for integrated team management, and data interchange between platforms is poor.
- Mid-market clubs increasingly need GDPR/COPPA-compliant under-18 workflows, offline match-day capability, and self-hosting options that incumbents do not prioritise.

Scouting, Health & Operations
- Prospect database with video tagging, attribute ratings, and comparison reports

- Financial management for membership fees, kit orders, venue hire invoicing, and per-team expenses
- Offline match-day mode that syncs once connectivity returns
AI-Native Advantage
AI is woven through the workflow rather than bolted on: auto-tagging of video events (goals, fouls, key plays) from raw footage using open vision models, natural-language stat queries over team data, and LLM-drafted match recaps and parent communications. Smart scheduling learns club preferences and resolves multi-team, multi-venue conflicts automatically, while combined training-load and wellness signals power early injury-risk warnings and scouting similarity search across video and stat embeddings — capabilities currently restricted to enterprise tiers like Teamworks Smartabase.
Tech Stack & Deployment
The platform is designed as a mobile-friendly PWA with a native shell for coaches, players, and parents, backed by a multi-sport configurable data model. Deployment supports both managed cloud and self-hosted installs for clubs handling sensitive minor data. Integrations target Stripe Connect for payments, calendar feeds (iCal), and customer-supplied credentials for commercial sports data feeds (Opta, Wyscout) and wearables (Catapult, STATSports, Garmin) rather than redistributing licensed data.
Market Context
The sports management software market is served by a fragmented mix of consumer (TeamSnap, Spond, Heja, GameChanger), governance-focused (SportsEngine, Stack Sports, LeagueApps), and enterprise (Teamworks, SAP Sports One, Hudl) vendors, with pricing ranging from freemium tiers funded by sponsor placements (TeamLinkt) to enterprise licences out of reach for amateur clubs. Primary buyers are club administrators, league directors, and coaches in youth, amateur, and semi-professional organisations who need integrated tooling without enterprise procurement. Demand is rated Medium and complexity 7/10 in the project catalogue.
